The smoot is a nonstandard unit of length equal to Oliver Smoot's height (~5ft 7in).  In 1958, as part of an MIT frat prank Smoot layed on the Harvard Bridge (between Boston and Cambridge) and was used by his fraternity brothers to measure the length of the bridge. It's ~364.4 smoots (+/- ear).
